biography
Syniva Whitney was born in Ames, Iowa. Her current work explores the relationship between technology and the human body. She is interested in visualizing and manipulating the architectural and binary nature of material objects both digitally produced and hand-made. She uses different techniques: weaving, rug making, web design, digital photography, music and sound fx find their way into her work. She likes to explore the tension between trash and transformation and high and low culture using materials like VHS tape, party ribbon, technological cast offs and industrial plastics. She received her BA from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington and her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She currently lives in Chicago, Illinois.
